DESCRIPTION
This well-appointed cottage, set among cedars and pines and overlooking a quiet
jet ski-free lake, is perfect for two! A few steps down to lakeside enjoy
swimming, paddling or sunning at your own canoe house. Toast marshmallows
around the fire pit or watch the stars appear and listen to the Loons serenade.
Your days here will be filled with paddling on the pond and the Osgood River;
connecting with the extensive waters of the St. Regis Wilderness Canoe Area;
climbing St. Regis Mountain (visible from the pond) or the many other easy to
difficult peaks nearby; hiking the Interpretive Center trails, the Red Dot trail or
numerous trails in the area; fishing the pond for Bass and Pike; swimming from
the canoe house dock or bicycling and exploring the less-traveled roads.
Osgood Pond, described as a "pristine mountain lake" is approximately
1-1/2 miles long. Much of its shoreline is forever-wild state land.

Welcome to The Gazebo
|

View from any angle
|
Choose a book from the arts and crafts bookcase and
relax in the comfy sofa or chairs. Listen to the FM or put on a CD (there are
many to choose from). A time to relax and experience life differently from the
rest of the year with no television or phone to jangle the nerves.
Dining room, kitchen and pantry equipped with everything you will need
for cooking and dining.
The bedroom has a king-size bed and large dresser and closet. There's a
full bathroom with tub/shower. Bedding, blankets, linens and towels are in the
linen closet.
Open porch overlooking the lake with gas grill, table and chairs. Check
out the hammock for snoozing.
The Gazebo, an historic structure, was
part of the Harrison G. Otis camp (built in 1906). It
was originally an open-air gazebo. On warm afternoons,
elegant ladies gathered to sip tea and enjoy the cool
breezes from the lake. After dinner, gentlemen retired
to the gazebo to savor brandy and cigars. Their
conservation interrupted only by the call of the Loon.
Over the years, the Gazebo was enclosed and it became a charming
cottage. The original roofline and the cathedral ceiling still remain. The lake-facing sliding glass doors invite a breath of scented pine and views of flower-filled window boxes and rippling waters.

Cozy dining
Birders and nature lovers can follow the path of Teddy Roosevelt to discover why
the Adirondacks are called a "birders' paradise". By trail or canoe you'll discover
Spruce Grouse, Black-backed Woodpecker, Boreal Chickadee, varied Warblers
and Flycatchers.
Relaxing on the canoe house deck you might see the Bald Eagle swoop
down for a fish - the Great Blue Heron wing along the shore or watch and listen
to the Loons. When you return to the cottage, the Ruby-throated
Hummingbirds whirl and dive as they sip at the feeder outside the glass doors of
the living room.
Truly the
Gazebo on Osgood Pond is a naturalist's heaven. Do
Dragonflies intrigue you? Watch as a dragonfly emerges
from its nymph form before your eyes. Resting and
drying on the canoe house wall before setting off to
find dinner.
Small (and
large) animals abound: squirrels (including the
amazing flying squirrel), chipmunks, raccoons, beaver,
otter, turtles, deer and Moose*.
Water and
land plants too many to mention. Beautiful butterflies
and moths are here (learn more at the Native Butterfly
House, close by at the Visitor Interpretive Center).
*Spring of
2005: a Moose visited our area and was seen on our
road. They are wanders so perhaps we'll have another
visitor soon again.
We look
forward to welcoming you, too!
