DESCRIPTION
“Cat’s
Meow” is a cozy four-season
cottage tucked on sunny,
level, private land surrounded by pines, woodland
and a rose-covered white picket fence. “Cat’s
Meow” is an ideal vacation home in any season.
It’s romantic as a couple’s getaway, comfortable to return to after a day of
activities, safe
and engaging for children, who love the collection
of “cats” and the
entertaining property, with its playing lawn,
enchanted forest and path through the woods to shallow-water access with a dock and rowboat on West Caroga Lake.
Lovingly
restored from the ground up, “Cat’s Meow” is
charmingly decorated with vintage prints & cottage
furniture, linen white beadboard walls, ceiling fans
in every room and custom lighting on dimmer switches.
The
warm, sunny great
room has gorgeous oak floors and beamed ceilings,
a full sleeper
sofa, comfortable chairs, and ten windows spilling
sunlight throughout the room. The gas
fireplace provides glowing ambience and warmth on
cold winter days or takes the chill out of the air on
cooler summer nights. Cable TV, DVD and VCR player
with classic movies, WI-FI
high-speed internet access, a game table with a
selection of board games and stereo with an eclectic
collection of CD’s are included.
The
great room joins the spacious, open eat-in
kitchen area equipped with an electric stove,
refrigerator with ice maker, coffee maker, microwave
and all small appliances and utensils; track lighting
on dimmers; a ceiling fan and an antique, hand-painted
china cupboard filled with attractive china and
glassware. A perfect place for entertaining, the large dining table seats up to 8 comfortably and
looks out through sliding glass doors onto the deck with lighted outdoor table with an umbrella and chairs and
equipped with a stainless steel gas
grill and patio heater. Both the dining room and
the deck have beautiful views of the woods.
Tucked
beneath the stairs is a half
bath decorated with vintage postcards of
Caroga
Lake
.
An
antique carved porch post stands at the foot of the
open staircase leading up to the two
bedrooms –– the master with a queen
size antique iron bed, the other with two
double antique beds. Each bedroom has down
comforters, pillows, fleece blankets, remote control
ceiling fans, reading lights, antique dressers, soft
carpet and ample closet space. You provide linens
(sheets, pillowcases, towels).
The
upstairs
bathroom is spacious and bright with a shower/tub,
pedestal sink, tile floors, antique shelving and an
overhead heater fan. Amenities include a hair dryer
and ironing board.
Behind
a long white picket fence covered in roses along the
quiet South Shore Road of West Caroga Lake, a large
level lawn is ideal for play and games. In the private
backyard, enclosed by woods, a safely enclosed fire pit is surrounded by a circle of Adirondack chairs for evening
campfires and stargazing.
From
the first fragrant blossoms of lilac and our native
“pinxter” azalea in May and June, the summer
garden is always in bloom. Flower boxes brighten the
front windows of the cottage with its inviting
turquoise door.
There’s
a picnic table in the shade of the enchanted
woods, where children of all ages will enjoy
discovering evidence of the fairy folk who live there.
It’s not just the “little people” that make the
woods enchanting –– leafy and cool in summer, the
foliage is brilliant in autumn, the winter branches
coated with sparkling snow.
A
short stroll down a path through the woods will lead
you to a shared dock on West Caroga Lake providing a rowboat and swimming area
on a gently sloping, sandy-bottomed waterfront.
(Kayaks and a canoe are available for an additional
fee.) It’s an ideal spot for young children.
Adirondack chairs are provided for watchful parents.
Boating traffic through the channel to East Caroga
Lake is entertaining to watch, safely at a distance
from this shallow, clear waterfront. There are
panoramic views of beautiful West Caroga Lake and the
vintage Ferris wheel and carousel at Sherman’s, the
former 1920’s amusement park, located just a few
minutes walk away.
“Cat’s
Meow” is minutes from downhill
skiing at Royal Mountain, renowned Lapland Lake cross-country
ski resort, state hunting
land, trout fishing streams, hiking
& snowshoeing trails,
and a major snowmobile
corridor with access to hundreds of miles of
trails. Fishing
is a year-round activity, with ice-fishing shacks
dotting the lake in winter.
Kayaking, canoeing, biking and rock climbing are popular 3 season
activities. Wildflowers
lure spring visitors; fall
foliage is splendid.
Convenient
to this location and all within walking distance, are
stores, laundromat, restaurants, bars, post office,
gas station, museum and chapels. The scenic and historic region abounds in cultural activities and
tourist attractions, with easy daytrips to
Cooperstown, Saratoga Springs, and Lake George as well
as the 6 million acre Adirondack Park.
“Cat’s
Meow” is a short walk from “Firefly,” Listing
#5329, and shares the same neighborhood waterfront and
dock. For
families vacationing together, renting these two
cottages would provide generous and varied outdoor
space as well as 6 bedrooms accommodating up to 14.
“Cat’s
Meow” is located 15 minutes from Gloversville, an
hour from Saratoga Springs and Albany, four hours from
New York, Boston, Buffalo and Montreal.
Conjuring
childhood memories of
summer camp with wildflowers and ice cream,
firelight and fireflies, s’mores and ghost stories,
“Cat’s Meow” is a gentle place you will hold
close to your heart, where time stands still.
"Cat’s Meow” accommodates a maximum of 6 guests at all times; there
is parking for a maximum of 3 cars. Sorry, no pets and no smoking.
