DESCRIPTION
Built around 1910, this family home is located in a private setting, under huge white pines, yet is only a 10-minute walk to the center of Keene Valley. The house looks out over a 10-acre private meadow and onto unobstructed views of Spread Eagle, Hopkins, Giant, and Round Mountains. It has four bedrooms on the second level. Each bedroom sleeps two persons: two bedrooms have two twin beds, one bedroom has a double bed and one bedroom has bunk beds. Linens, blankets and towels are supplied. On the first floor, there is a large family room with a skylight, sleigh bed, TV and DVD/video player, upright piano, and a free-standing Jotul stove. The large modernized eat-in kitchen has a microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, and all other kitchen and dining equipment (china, utensils, etc.). A large formal dining room, with wainscoting and oak beams, seats 12, and two porches each provide enough room for a family meal outside. There are two bathrooms: upstairs has a tub/shower and downstairs has a stall shower.

There is an additional detached one-room cabin with a screened porch available as an option. The family home sits adjacent to a large Summer Camp (which is not rented) but it is otherwise about 800 yards from any other houses. The open backyard gets a lot of sun and is ideal for barbequing, badminton, or croquet (all available) or other games. The main road through Keene Valley (Route 73), a picturesque village in the heart of the High Peaks region of the Adirondack Mountains, is a short walk away. 

The Garden, one of the most popular trailheads in the Adirondacks, is a 20-minute walk from the house along the same road. Trails from the Garden lead to Johns Brook Lodge and up the Johns Brook Valley to the Great Range and Mount Marcy. Many other trailheads are also close by. Rock climbing, canoeing, mountain biking, swimming, tennis, golf, and fishing are available in the area. Lake Placid, with its Olympic athletic facilities, competitions, restaurants, shopping, lake access, historic sites, and world-class horse shows, is a 25-minute drive.
