DESCRIPTION
Welcome
to Camp Brig O' Doon in the Adirondacks!
Our
rustic wooden sleeping cabins offer a restful place to
stay after enjoying the trails, ponds, and streams in
the Saint Regis Canoe area at Paul Smith's, NY.
Your
stay at Brig O' Doon will be characterized by the
wonderful fresh smell of pine when you arrive, a sense
of peace in the natural world, and usually, a
welcoming loon calling across the pond.
While
each cabin does not have a kitchen, each is equipped
with a microwave, small refrigerator, instant-coffee
pot, and toaster oven and will provide for simple
paper plate cooking. There is a rolling outdoor grill
to use and a picnic table. A restaurant, coffee shop,
and convenience stores are found three miles away in
Gabriels. For fancier fare, Saranac Lake (12 miles)
has several restaurants. Newly reopened Samson's Bar
and Grill is located in Meacham Lake a few miles going north on Route 30.
Good Food!
Lake
Placid is 20 miles from camp with nightlife and
Olympic sights. Stop for Donnelly's superb ice cream before
dark and view one of the most scenic vistas of the
Adirondacks from Harrietstown Hill!

"The Apartment"
sleeps 4

Two Cabins:
1) "Crannock,
Gaelic for "Cabin by the water:, has two nice
sized bedrooms with double beds, walk through closets,
a centrally located bathroom with shower, and a third
large sitting room with futon and table area. Crannock
has a small stainless steel sink. Crannock is
sheltered by large pines and has a view of the pond
from its front porch. Guests often sit on the porch
and read, journal, or observe pond activity which is
about 30 feet away. Brig O' Doon is located on an
esker or ridge of land. There is a 25 foot bank and a
walking path down to the dock.
2) Our second
rustic wood cabin, "The Apartment", has a
small sitting area with woodstove, a bedroom with
double bed, a walk through sink area with enclosed
toilet, and shower. On the other side is a small
bedroom with two twin beds. This cabin gets direct
sunlight during the day and warms up early.
Our wooded
areas hold wildflowers which should not be disturbed.
Lady Slippers take 15 years before they bloom. When
the season is late, these flowers are still beautiful
in early July. Guests need to stay on the paths and
please no picking.
We willingly share our dock for swimming. We have two
small canoes and one 12' foot rowboat (both extra). The water access site is
across the pond for roof top boats only. We welcome guests who relish
the natural world, like to walk trails or spend the day on the chain of lakes.
Most kayakers and canoeists love being on calm, and scenic Osgood
Pond. Bring your own PFDs for best fit. Osgood is jet ski free.
The sunsets from the dock or down at the bluff are ones to
remember.
Staying at Brig 0' Doon is like
camping, but with a roof over your head, hot water, and electric- the pleasantries of both
worlds. Enjoy the towns, but rest in the country. There are numerous trails to walk at Paul Smith's and the
Visitor Interpretive Center (VIC) is a mile away. We see a great selection
of birds including heron, the Osgood bald headed eagle family, warblers,
foxes, turtles, deer, otter, ducks, and many different tracks.
From the
dock at dusk you can see fish jump and hear the wood
thrush sing.
All these animals and their ecosystems
balance to enhance and enrich our world. Bird watchers
welcome. Sit back and let a humming
bird check you out! Relax.
For warmth in the cabins at night, open doors during the day, and
close up as the sun goes down. There is no central heating. Each cabin
contains a woodstove for heat when someone is in the building.
We have no street lights. Bring your
flashlights! On moonless nights you need them. You can view
stars to the north and east. We have a newly drilled well with great water.
Sheets and blankets are provided, but we ask that you put them on.
You may bring your own. No boom boxes or sound systems,
please. Other guests are expecting to hear the wind in the trees.
The owner's family and pets stay in camp in their own cabins. An
emergency phone is available, bring your cell phone for private calls. No
TV signal here.
Brig 0' Doon's North Country location gives easy access to many
trails and mountains to climb. The Onchiota Indian Museum is
seven miles from Brig. The new Wild Center in Tupper Lake is 30. At camp you
may swim and boat at your own risk. Children must be accompanied by
an adult on the dock or in a boat. There is no lifeguard on duty.
We are looking forward to welcoming you
to camp. Camp Brig 0' Doon is about a mile back from Route 86.
Here at
Brig O' Doon stress melts away. Let the woods seep
into your being as you enjoy one of the rare places
where the natural world survives.
