DESCRIPTION
Situated
among majestic pines on a three-acre
lot with a large sunny yard and beautiful woods,
“Evergreen” is a three
bedroom year-round cabin, an ideal nature
lover’s getaway in all seasons. “Evergreen”
has been freshly updated and furnished in nostalgic
‘50’s style. It’s the camp you remember –
but better!
The
living room,
furnished in full mid-century
retro glory, features vintage custom-covered
rattan sofas and chairs, a Bertoia-style wire swivel
rocker with leopard-print armrests, a hard-rock maple
rocker with a naughehyde “Western saddle” appliqué
and a blond Heywood-Wakefield style coffee table.
Vibrant contemporary paintings hang on rustic
barn-siding paneled walls. Hip vintage lamps include a
fabulous 50’s green ceramic figure of the water god
Neptune. A gas
fireplace adds to the ambiance.
TV with standard cable,
DVD and videos, stereo and CD’s, board games, cards and poker chips offer
entertainment. WI-FI
high speed internet access
is provided for your laptop computer.
A
wall of glass and screen doors opens to a large wrap-around deck furnished with Adirondack
chairs and a café table, perfect for morning coffee.
There
are new, polished dark hardwood
floors throughout the cottage. Ceiling
fans in every room circulate winter heat and
summer breezes.
“Evergreen”
accommodates up to
six guests in two full bedrooms and one with two
twin beds. All the bedrooms are ventilated with ceiling
fans and high privacy windows with beautiful
treetop views. There are reading lights, bedside
tables, dressers and closets or armoires for your
clothes. Comfortable
beds are topped with vintage bedspreads or quilts,
pillows and warm blankets. You provide sheets,
pillowcases and towels.
Two
full bedrooms
have cream-painted pine-paneled walls and hardwood
floors. One is furnished with a mid-century modern
tiger-maple suite, lit with a folk art Popsicle-stick
lamp. The vintage “peacock” theme includes metal
wall sculptures, an appliquéd wall hanging and a
gorgeous chenille bedspread.
In
the second bedroom, an antique full bed painted a
new-leaf green is dressed with a paisley quilted
coverlet from a Paris
flea market. The bed faces a beautiful, private view
of lawn, woods and a stone fire circle through a
picture window with opening side casements. A
cushioned antique cedar chest provides blanket storage
and a window seat.
The
classic 50’s
knotty-pine twin bedroom has hard-rock maple beds
with cowboy chenille spreads, an armoire with drawers
and a clothes rod, “Western” cowboy and
cowgirl accessories, and a spectacular collection of
souvenir banners.
The
newly remodeled
bathroom has a bath/shower with soft goldenrod
tiles and watery green and blue glass mosaic accents.
A window above the tub provides ventilation, along
with an exhaust fan with heater. The bathroom has a
pedestal sink, mirrored medicine cabinet, linen closet
with ample storage, good lighting, and premium vinyl
flooring.
The
fully-equipped
eat-in kitchen has a broad picture window with
wooded views. (
East
Caroga
Lake
can be glimpsed through pines between the cottages
across the lane.) A dining
table seats 6 in front of the window, while a
mirrored backsplash over the kitchen counter reflects
the views. Dark wood cabinets and new apple-green Formica
counters compliment the woodsy surroundings and
provide ample food storage and prep areas. The room is
well-lit with recessed and track lighting on dimmer
switches, a ceiling fan with light, and under-cabinet
strip lighting. All-new
appliances include a gas range with self-cleaning
oven, hood and microwave, a stainless steel double
sink and a full-size refrigerator. Small appliances
include a toaster, coffee grinder and maker, blender,
mixer, electric skillet, electric wok and fondue pot.
A water cooler provides drinking water. The kitchen is
well-equipped with good pots, baking pans, sharp
knives, handy gadgets and a full array of dishes and
serving pieces.
A
gas grill
is located nearby in the sunny yard, along with a picnic
table for outdoor dining. An outdoor
stone firepit circled by cedar
Adirondack
chairs is perfect for bonfires with S'mores and
stargazing. There’s a clothesline for drying wet
bathing suits and towels.
Walking
through “Evergreen’s” three
acres of woods
in the spring wildflower season, you might chance upon
rare lady’s slippers; pitcher plants are abundant in
a nearby cove. Fall
foliage is glorious; snow-laden winter branches
are stunning.
Just
steps away across the lane, our dock
on East
Caroga
Lake
is the ideal spot for lazing in an
Adirondack
chair, watching the ducks and loons. A rowboat
is tethered to the dock for your use; you’re welcome
to bring a small outboard motor. Bring kayaks or
canoes or rent ours. Swim from our dock (it’s
shallow and mucky for a bit) or at our sandy,
kid-friendly private association beach, a three-minute drive. The lake has many
coves to explore and is well-stocked for sports
fishing. A channel connects to
West
Caroga
Lake,
for a combined total of more than 500 lake acres of
boating, fishing, swimming, exploring.
Winter
sports
enthusiasts will enjoy “Evergreen’s” proximity
to great cross-country skiing, ice-skating and
sledding at world-renowned Lapland Lake Resort;
downhill skiing at Royal Mountain;
ice-fishing and a winter carnival on Caroga
Lake;
snowshoe trekking and cross-country skiing on a large
network of maintained trails. A major snowmobile
corridor accesses hundreds of miles of groomed trails
in all directions.
Nearby
Caroga Creek is a top-rated trout-fishing
stream. Hiking,
mountain biking
and ATV trails, fishing streams, state hunting
land, and gorgeous views from a mountaintop fire tower
are all nearby. The county has seven
golf courses and 44
lakes to enjoy, ranging from small hidden lakes on
hiking trails to the 26 mile long Great Sacandaga.
“Evergreen”
is on a quiet road rimming the lake in the village of
Caroga Lake, within
walking distance of all services and 15 minutes
from the historic sister-cities of Gloversville and
Johnstown. Centrally located in the accessible
southern Adirondacks, “Evergreen” is a great
location for easy
daytrip excursions to Saratoga (Performing Arts
Center, Thoroughbred Racing and much more), Lake
George, Great Sacandaga Lake, Cooperstown (Baseball
Hall of Fame, Farmers' Museum, Fennimore Museum, Howe
Caverns), the Albany capital region, and much of the
six million acre Adirondack Park, including Blue
Mountain Lake and Tupper Lake, homes of renowned
Adirondack regional museums.
“Dinky
Soleil” (Listing # 5333) is
just across the road. For Families vacationing
together, renting these two cottages together
would provide generous and varied outdoor space with
lakefront and wooded land as well as 5 bedrooms
accommodating up to 12.
“Evergreen”
accommodates a maximum
of 6 guests at all times; there is parking for a maximum
of 2 cars. Sorry, no
pets and no
smoking. “Evergreen”
has a no shoes policy: bring slippers or flip-flops for indoor use.
