Long Lake New York waterfront accommodation

Adirondack Park Long Lake lakefront lodging

DESCRIPTION
"This is a super place for individuals or small groups who want to get away for a couple of days at a rustic location with some great fish, terrific surroundings, and wonderful company."
ESPN article on Fishing Sperry Pond

Imagine, as far as the eye can see, unspoiled, pristine wilderness steeped in history, wildlife, and spectacular views. Our private lake covers 110 acres, is 6/10th of a mile long with 3.1 miles of undisturbed and private shoreline.

Elevation: 1,775 feet (541 m)

SPERRY POND RETREAT... A YEAR 'ROUND 1,750 Acre, Gated, and Private Retreat, Family Recreation Area, Hunting Ground, and Private Lake... Nestled in the Heart of Northern New York's Adirondack Park Preserve.

SPERRY POND RETREAT "a mystical corner of creation where memories are born ... and dreams are shared. Shake off old baggage, fatigue, and stress. HUNT, FISH, RELAX, or just kick back where Mother Nature resides year 'round."

HOUSEKEEPING CABIN RENTALS...Only TWO, well separated and secluded (1/2 mile apart), drive in, lakeside cabins share this former preserve of the wealthy and renown. (William C. Whitney called Sperry Pond, "My favorite pond in the Adirondacks.")

Bond with your mate, your kids, and your friends. Make memories. Paddle, row, swim, hike, climb, and play hide and seek with beaver, otter, mink, turtles... Sit around a nightly campfire, owls hooting, loons wailing nearby, and coyotes howling in the distance.

Interior cabin two

Our newly built rustic Housekeeping Cabins are family friendly and fully equipped. You can use your cell phone here. All this and pet friendly, too! Both cabins (did we mention there are only two?) comfortably accommodate eight guests, and feature three bedrooms, bathroom with shower, large open kitchen, eating area, and great room. Decor is classically Adirondack and a good portion of the furniture and accents were handmade by your host, Gregg Spengler.

All of the utilities (stove, refrigerator, lights, hot water heater, and cabin heat) are powered by propane. There is no electrical service. Cook in the fully equipped kitchen or outside on the propane fired barbeque. No power boats are allowed on the pond. Rowboats, paddleboats, and canoes are provided.

Conveniently located only 9 miles from the Hamlet of Long Lake and 12 miles to the Village of Tupper Lake. The property is also adjacent to the public access William C. Whitney Wilderness Area.

FISHING...Sperry Pond, as well as the nearby Little Tupper Lake, is the home of a genetically unique "heritage" strain of brook trout. Along with a variety of native minnows, the population of the "Little Tupper" strain are the direct descendants of the first trout to have reached the lake after glaciers receded about 12,000 years ago. Sperry Pond is one of 12 waters in the Adirondacks known to harbor the Little Tupper strain; three are in William C. Whitney Area: Little Tupper Lake, Rock Pond, and Bum Pond. Lilypad Pond and Little Salmon Lake support brook trout, but not the Little Tupper strain.

HUNTING...Black bear and trophy whitetail deer by rifle, bow, shotgun, and muzzleloader. Wild turkeys, ruffed grouse, woodcock, snowshoe hare, wood ducks, mallards, blacks, and Canada geese. Four wheeling in makes the carry out easier. We have always had a large feeding program, food plots for deer and turkey, as well as practiced buck management...nothing less than six points being taken. Hunting is limited to our guests, so the population is not over-hunted.

WILDLIFE...Hike or bike our preserve over seemingly endless old logging roads. Fear not. There are NO VENOMOUS SNAKES in our preserve. Marvel at the inventiveness of beaver dams and countless little critters scurrying around.

SNOWMOBILING...Our trails are private access only, so even novice riders can cruise for miles without fear of oncoming traffic. The main Adirondack trail abuts our property, and is easily accessed through our gate. A quick left takes you to the sleepy Hamlet of Long Lake for fuel, restaurants, and provisions. Or go straight ahead and hit the main trail that traverses the old main line railroad bed. At the RR bed, a left turn takes you all the way to Tug Hill. A right takes you north to Lake Placid and beyond.
