DESCRIPTION
Every once
in a while the thought occurs to all of us. "I
wonder what it would have been like to live in another
time and place." Stop wondering and begin the
journey. The time is the early 1900's and the place is
the remote and pristine Adirondack Mountains of
upstate New York.
Nestled
among white pine, hemlock, and birch trees on the
shore of beautiful Big Moose Lake you'll find a 1904
Adirondack rustic cabin, once part of the Grand
Lakeview Lodge. Built in the palisades style of
construction popular in the mid to late 1800's it
features a porch facing the lake, quaint fireplace,
kitchenette, and three sleeping rooms. This is a very
special place where your memories will last a
lifetime.
Now come
with me, close your eyes and imagine a clear, crisp
Adirondack day, you know the kind, the sky is bluer
than blue, not a cloud and the breeze is gently
blowing on your cheek bringing the aroma of a wood
smoke fire down the lake. Slip into your canoe or
kayak and head off towards North Bay, past the little
island that guards the entrance or the inlet with it's
magnificent marsh all the while watching for the Great
Blue Heron stalking it's prey along the shoreline.
Suddenly, your startled by the wail of the Loon as
beckons to another in the distance. You arrive back to
your floating dock settling in a comfortable
Adirondack chair and watch the sun set across the lake
behind Billy's Bald spot. Before you know it, on this
cloudless night, the stars are out in all their glory,
so close it seems that you can reach up grab a
handful. Retire to the cabin and enjoy the warmth of a
crackling fire in the quaint Adirondack style
fireplace before heading to bed where you hear the
waves lapping against the boulder strewn shoreline as
the starlit sky surrenders to a thunder and lightening
storm that echoes off the distant mountains while the
pitter patter of the raindrops on the tin roof has
lulled you into a deep restful sleep. Sometime, during
the night, after the storm has passed you're awakened
to the bone chilling sound of the coyote howling in
the distance but in no time the balsam filled air has
coaxed you back to sleep.
In the
hustle and bustle of every day living our senses have
been deprived of these glorious sensations.
The area
around Big Moose Lake abounds with trails that lead
the intrepid visitor to lake and mountain vistas,
remote ponds and lakes or old railroad villages.
Canoe, kayak, hike to your heart's content or visit a
world class museum, Olympic village, or sight see many
of the area's attractions.
